We have been at the edge of a precipice since December 1990 and more so since April 1991. The foreign exchange crisis constitutes a serious threat to the sustainability of growth processes and orderly implementation of our development programmes. Due to the combination of unfavourable internal and external factors, the inflationary pressures on the price level have increased very substantially since mid-1990. The people of India have to face double digit inflation which hurts most the poorer sections of our society. In sum, the crisis in the economy is both acute and deep. We have not experienced anything similar in the history of independent India... Neither the government nor the economy can live beyond its means year after year. The room for maneuver, to live on borrowed money or time, does not exist any more. Any further postponement of macroeconomic adjustment, long overdue, would mean that the balance of payments situation, now exceedingly difficult, would become unmanageable and inflation, already high, would exceed limits of tolerance. This process would, inevitably, need at least three years, if not longer, to complete. But there can be no adjustment without pain. The people must be prepared to make necessary sacrifices to preserve our economic independence and restore the health of our economy. When life gets tough, many of us find it hard to lift our voices in praise. Honestly, during challenging and painful times, praise often feels like the last thing we want to do. It’s easy to let our emotions dictate our response, but as believers, we are called to live differently. We are meant to praise God not only when things are going well, but especially in our most difficult moments. It's during these struggles that our praise can have the greatest impact. The story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16 serves as a powerful testament to this truth. In Acts 16, we see Paul and Silas facing severe consequences after freeing a slave girl from a spirit of divination. If you’ve never read the story, I encourage you to check it out; it’s pretty cool. Instead of receiving gratitude, they were beaten and thrown into the innermost prison, their feet locked in stocks. In that dark place, they had every reason to complain or fall into despair. I’m sure you’ve been there before, in a dark season where you feel stuck and see no way out. Yet, at midnight, they made a bold choice: they began to pray and sing hymns to God. Their decision to worship — a deliberate act of faith — stands in stark contrast to the natural inclination to grumble when faced with hardship. As Christians, we must recognize two essential truths when navigating trials. First, spiritual opposition is a part of our journey. The Christian life isn’t a cruise ship; it’s more like a battleship. Facing challenges comes with the territory, and understanding that we’re in a spiritual battle equips us to withstand those difficulties. Second, trials are not random; they are part of God’s divine plan. Like Paul and Silas, we will encounter obstacles, but these experiences are tailored for our growth and provide an opportunity to glorify God. Through these trials, God teaches us resilience and deepens our faith. When we choose to praise in the midst of adversity, we activate a powerful force. The praise of Paul and Silas was the sound of hope in the den of despair, leading to an incredible miracle—an earthquake that opened doors and unfastened their chains. Their worship wasn’t just a way to cope; it became a catalyst for God’s power to break through. This profound act of faith not only liberated them but also captivated the attention of the jailer, who soon sought salvation, bringing his entire household to faith. I imagine that God and the angels of heaven looked upon these men, amazed that they approached their situation as Job did. Do you remember Job’s words? He said, “Though He slay me, I will hope in Him.” Throughout the Scriptures, we find many instances where people could have easily given up, blamed God for their situation, and abandoned their walk with Jesus. But not Paul and Silas. They followed in the same steps of faith and praised God in the middle of their suffering. How about you? How do you handle the pain of life? How do you deal with unexpected changes in your plans? How do you behave when things go in a completely opposite direction from what you expected? Sign up to get our free daily email of the biggest stories! I wish I could say I’ve never grumbled or complained or had a lousy attitude when I was in a bad place, but I’d be lying. Over and over again, I’ve failed the test and had to repent for my perspective. My feelings are real. Your feelings are real. Life hurts—I get it. But here’s the thing: we haven’t been called to live by our feelings; we’ve been called to live by faith and to learn to praise in the middle of our prison seasons. By God’s grace, we learn to adopt a new perspective—one that humbly admits that we don’t have the right to get sour when God has been so good to us. Let me ask you: has God been good to you? I wonder what would happen if you chose to thank Him and praise Him when it’s the last thing you felt like doing. I’m willing to bet you would find the foundation of your situation changing, just as Paul and Silas experienced their prison walls shaking and soon discovered the freedom that comes from breaking the shackles of negativity. As we reflect on our lives, let’s consider the “prisons” we may be facing. What burdens can we break free from through praise? How can we intentionally offer thanks even when it's challenging? The discipline of praise is not just about enduring tough times; it’s about actively choosing gratitude in the face of adversity. By lifting our voices in worship, we honor God, demonstrate our faith, and hopefully inspire those around us to do the same. In every season, let us remember the power of praise—it can transform our struggles into stepping stones toward deeper faith and new opportunities for witnessing God’s goodness.

Bank of America Announces Full Redemption of Its Series MM Preferred Stock and Related Depositary SharesVote counting in Ireland's general election began Saturday with an exit poll indicating a tight finish with the incumbent centre-right coalition most likely to form the next government. After voting concluded Friday, the exit poll indicated that the leftist-nationalist Sinn Fein, the main opposition party, narrowly led with 21.1 percent of the vote. But neck and neck on 21.0 percent was the centre-right Fine Gael whose leader is the outgoing prime minister Simon Harris. Fine Gael's centre-right partner in the outgoing coalition -- Fianna Fail, led by deputy prime minister Micheal Martin -- were slightly further back in third with 19.5 percent. "Forming a government will depend on two of the three being able to cooperate with one another," Lisa Keenan, a political scientist at Trinity College Dublin, told AFP. But Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are "in the driving seat to reestablish coalition" in the new 174-seat lower chamber of parliament, said the Irish Times newspaper. During the campaign both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael ruled out entering coalition with Sinn Fein, who also prioritise Irish unification. "Sinn Fein could well finish first in the popular vote for the second time in a row, but face another five years in opposition," said the paper. At the last general election in 2020, Sinn Fein -- the former political wing of the paramilitary Irish Republican Army -- won the largest vote share but could not find willing coalition partners. That led to weeks of horsetrading, ending up with Fine Gael, which has been in power since 2011, agreeing a deal with Fianna Fail. Partial results are expected throughout Saturday, while a final result may not be clear for days. During the last parliamentary term, the role of prime minister rotated between the Fianna Fail and Fine Gael leaders. The smaller Green Party made up the governing coalition. EU member Ireland's proportional representation system sees votes of eliminated candidates redistributed during multiple rounds of counting. While the exit poll suggests Fine Gael and Fianna Fail's performance is down on the last election, "their supporters are increasingly willing to transfer from one to the other," as the count rounds progress, Keenan told AFP. Smaller opposition parties including the Social Democrats, and Labour would be in the mix for coalition talks after the final result according to analysts. Non-aligned independent candidates could also play a role in the next government if sought by the frontrunner parties to make up an 88-seat majority in the Dail. The three-week campaign, launched after Harris called a snap election November 8, was marked by rancour over housing and cost-of-living crises, public spending and immigration. Harris, who became Ireland's youngest-ever taoiseach (prime minister) when he took over in April, held a solid lead entering the campaign. But the party lost ground, in particular after Harris was seen in a viral clip appearing rude and dismissive to a care worker on the campaign trail. Both centre-right parties stressed their pro-business and pro-EU credentials and said returning them to power would ensure stability, particularly with turmoil abroad and the risk of external shocks. Ireland's high-growth economy depends on foreign direct investment and lavish corporate tax returns from mainly US tech and pharma giants, and would suffer if incoming US president Donald Trump follows through on pledges to slap tariffs on imports and repatriate corporate tax of US firms. The exit poll revealed "no enthusiasm for the government, despite the buoyant economy," Eoin O'Malley, a political scientist at Dublin City University, told AFP. "But neither is there any enthusiasm for the opposition parties," he said. Mary Lou McDonald's Sinn Fein saw a dip in support among its working class base in the past year because of its progressive stance on social issues and migration policy, as immigration became a key election issue. But it rallied on the back of a campaign heavily focused on housing policy and claimed it is the only alternative to Fine Gael and Fianna Fail, which have swapped power since Irish independence from Britain in 1921. pmu/ach
After rough time in Bahamas, Wildcats take long road trip to McKale CenterISLAMABAD: Senator Faisal Vawda has predicted a looming ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as authorities have vowed strict punishment for the detained PTI workers involved in the Islamabad protest. Speaking on ARY News’ program ‘Khabar’, Vawda remarked that orchestrating the events of May 9 was a task fit for vultures. He added that had the party agreed to hold a peaceful rally in Sangjani, they would have retained their dignity. Vawda mentioned that he is making efforts to protect PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, and will continue to do so, stating that one woman had insisted on going to D-Chowk but later fled from there. According to Vawda, the entire leadership has stated that this woman caused trouble for them. He added that while Ali Amin Gandapur will not be arrested, Bushra Bibi will be. Blaming Imran Khan’s wife for the troubles, Senator Vawda reiterated that all PTI leaders share the view that this one woman has caused significant issues for the party. Vawda also claimed that Imran Khan’s life is at risk from those close to him, emphasizing that he is trying to save the PTI founder’s life and will continue to do so. It is worth noting that PTI protesters retreated after former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who were leading the protest, fled after security forces carried out a grand operation late on Tuesday night in Islamabad. Earlier, Vawda had stated that PTI is divided into different factions. He said: “PTI today consists of non-political wives, sisters, lawyers, old members, and new factions. Beyond Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the leadership is nowhere to be seen.” Vawda expressed dismay over the state of the party, saying, “While the founder of PTI is in jail, others are busy with their own interests.” Read More: Bushra Bibi transferred to undisclosed location in KP, claims sister On November 27, Maryam Riaz Wattoo, sister of Bushra Bibi, has confirmed that the former first lady has been transferred to an undisclose location in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In an interview on ARY’s program ‘Khabar’, Maryam Riaz Wattoo, stated that Bushra Bibi’s phone was currently off, and even the numbers of those with her were also unreachable. She mentioned that she was able to get in touch with Bushra Bibi today through her sources. She clarified that no one had informed her of Bushra Bibi’s whereabouts, and after speaking with her, Bushra Bibi was moved to another location. Maryam also confirmed that Bushra Bibi had not been in contact with her family and did not know where she was. It was later revealed that Bushra Bibi had been transferred to an unknown location in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Maryam Riaz Wattoo stated that Bushra Bibi was not willing to leave D-Chowk but was forced to do so, and the firing in the area contributed to her being moved. Maryam mentioned that she had been trying to reach Bushra Bibi for a long time and had been asking everyone to put her in touch with her sister. Maryam added that when she finally spoke with Bushra Bibi, her sister expressed a desire to stay at the protest.
The Israeli Justice Ministry made the announcement in a message late on Thursday, saying the investigation would focus on the findings of a recent report by the Uvda investigative programme into Sara Netanyahu. The programme uncovered a trove of WhatsApp messages in which Mrs Netanyahu appears to instruct a former aide to organise protests against political opponents and to intimidate Hadas Klein, a key witness in the trial. The announcement did not mention Mrs Netanyahu by name and the Justice Ministry declined further comment. Earlier on Thursday, Mr Netanyahu blasted the Uvda report as “lies”. It is the latest in a long line of legal troubles for the Netanyahus, highlighted by the PM’s ongoing corruption trial. Mr Netanyahu is charged with fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in a series of cases alleging he exchanged favours with powerful media moguls and wealthy associates. He denies the charges and says he is the victim of a “witch hunt” by overzealous prosecutors, police and the media.
NoneThanksgiving football opened up with a NFC North battle as coach Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions defeated the Chicago Bears 23-20 at Ford Field. Lions star Jahmyr Gibbs, who has become one of the best young running backs in the NFL, had another solid day despite limited touches. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star recorded nine carries for 87 yards, inching closer to the 1,000-yard mark for the season. He also added two catches for 17 yards through the air. Although he had another reliable showing, Gibbs may have had one of his bigger slip-ups of the year just before the holiday. In a post made on his Instagram story , the running back shared a video of his teammate, but it was what was in the background that grabbed fans' attention. © Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Behind his teammate, one can see a whiteboard filled with what appeared to be specific plays or cadences. It is unclear whether Detroit actually uses these in-game, but it certainly wasn't a wise decision by Gibbs to post this. Going into the match against Chicago, Campbell was unaware of Gibbs' actions, and on Saturday, following the win, the fourth-year Lions coach learned of the post from a reporter. "Gibbs had a social media post where there was a bunch of plays or partial calls on a whiteboard behind [his teammate]," the reporter said to Campbell in a press conference. "Is that something you need to remind a player to be smart about what they are posting on social media?" Campbell then gave his initial reaction to finding out the news about Gibbs. "Oh, I didn't know that," Campbell said. "I did not know that. Okay. Yeah, I need to check on that then. Did not know that. Yeah, I'd rather our stuff not be out there. Thanks." Jahmyr Gibbs nooooooooooooo pic.twitter.com/80wIBGcyTT Gibbs has been an integral part of a Lions team that is 11-1 and atop the NFC standings. He has recorded 973 rushing yards and ten touchdowns on the year, both of which rank in the top five in the NFL. Detroit will play in a second-straight Thursday game in Week 14 when the Green Bay Packers come to town. Still, regardless of the outcome, the Lions will hold first place in the division.
