Las Vegas Strip casino closes huge singer’s popular residencyNEW DELHI: If Manomhan Singh is remembered as the finance minister who ushered in economic reforms, he was also the PM under whose watch UPA govt launched many landmark social sector initiatives - from right to information to right to education and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The concept for the initiatives didn't come from within govt, but from National Advisory Council, headed by Sonia Gandhi, with civil society activists as members. Not surprisingly, the schemes' credit was also taken by Gandhi and her team. The flagship schemes were backed by legislation, with RTI and NREGA being the first ones to be enacted in 2005. Singh's first term also saw the introduction of OBC quotas in education, a move pushed by then HRD minister Arjun Singh, which was resisted by several of his cabinet colleagues before they fell in line. The quota announcement, which set off protests, was followed by govt announcing an expansion in the number of seats in educational institutions. Towards the end of UPA's first term, Centre also announced a mega farm loan package, seen to be a key factor in enabling the coalition return to power in 2009. And, when it returned to office, it enacted RTE and followed it up with the land acquisition act, and Right to Food or the National Food Security Act . While the land law is seen to be a major stumbling block for industries, something that NDA sought to reverse in its first term but was forced to abandon the plans, NFSA was never fully implemented. For those unaware but have heard about them, there are two supercontinents, one covering the north on our world, the other comprising the southern continents. Gondwana is the southern of the two and Laurasia, the northern supercontinent, is the most recent of the north. These supercontinents have much to do with fossils of the world, with China holding a number of them, yet Laurasia of Pangea is the most recent. South America is a treasure trove of the southern fossils, two of which were recently discovered, both very dissimilar in nature, though surprisingly interesting. Terror birds ruled the Americas, were top predators, and possibly the largest was recently discovered, a new species. The La Venta specimen in Colombia is believed to be much taller than a man and showed the Miocene era between 23 and 5 million years ago, who ruled. The leg bone was found twenty years ago and a paleontologist named Degrange is an expert, studying these animals nearly the same period of time, due to a slant in the bone. This could be the northernmost bird in South America documented. These birds have been discovered in Argentina, Brazil and the US, while La Venta could hold the link to how Terror birds arrived in North America, as La Venta was once like a humid riparian zone. Their favorite foods were ungulates, which would have thrived. Still awaiting discovery how they became so large, the environment might have made them extinct. Naturally, Terror birds had to outcompete one another, but the size of the latest discovery was massive. There is more to learn. Southeast Brazil was home to a starling-sized bird about 80 million years ago, and oddly enough, its brain and inner ear were reconstructed digitally to reveal ancient, modern, and unusual traits, as one of the last dinosaurs. During the Jurassic period, birds were small and feathered dinosaurs, and Navornis hestiae was a spectacular find filling in bird evolution since Archaeopteryx data, who lived in Europe about 150 million years ago. This skull was excellent proof as well-preserved 3D skulls of ancient birds are very uncommon. The brain, less than a half inch was smaller relative the skull size than modern birds, but overall larger and more complicated than the Archaeopteryx attributes. N. hestiae could prove the evolution between ancient and modern birds in certain ways on its spinal cord connection, yet had intermediate congenital examples in advancement opposed to the modern avian tree. There were more advanced features like flight function through balance with the vestibular system, and its skeleton proved flight ability. In some ways it had the appearance of a living bird, yet the unusual claws at the tops of the wings for an ancient specimen. Both of these species only get us closer to ancient evolution, and there will be more knowledge to come over the years, as additional species are unveiled via fossils. New technology will clearly formulate more. Deb Hirt is a wild bird rehabilitator and professional photographer living in Stillwater.

Gary Lineker has brutally told Micah Richards he will not be replacing him as the presenter of Match of the Day . It was announced earlier this month that Lineker would be stepping down at the end of the season after 25 years. Since the news emerged, a number of names have been linked with the role, including experienced presenters Mark Chapman , Gabby Logan , Alex Scott and Kelly Somers . Several ex-footballers have also been mooted as potential replacements, including current Match of the Day pundits Richards and Alan Shearer . Richards and Shearer also appear alongside Lineker on The Rest Is Football podcast and the trio have regularly discussed the future of the show. On a recent episode, Richards attempted to rule himself out of the running to replace Lineker and was hilariously shut down by the former England striker. "You know what, can I just get this out there, right," Richards began. "When people are saying Micah Richards is potentially going to take over a presenter, I think it's a massive disrespect to all the presenters out there. There's so many talented people. Just because I'm a pundit, I can give insight to a player, I feel I know the game, I watch tactics. "But to take over presenting one of the most iconic shows, not just in sport, but that BBC's ever had? There's so many others they can pick over me, I just can't believe they would even put my name in the hat." Lineker then jokingly replied: "Micah, you can totally relax. I can assure you they won't be asking you." Lineker has also refused to give his thoughts on who he feels should replace him, but he has shared some advice for his future successor. "Obviously, I don't know who it'll be, and I would never tell publicly my preference," he said. "I don't think that’d be the right thing to do – but whoever it is, I would say be yourself. I had to fill the ginormous shoes of certain Des Lynam. I would say just be yourself and enjoy it, it's a wonderful programme to be a part of. It was brilliant before I took over, and it will be brilliant after I leave." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Kuo, Industrial Development Administration Director Yang Chih-chin, and Small and Medium Enterprise Startup Administration Director-General Lee Guann-jyh attend a news conference in Taipei yesterday.Photo: Liao Chia-ning, Taipei Times AMENDMENTS:High-end tech collaborations with big companies rely on years of research, and a lack of government budget could delay their progress, an official said By Lisa Wang / Staff reporter 請繼續往下閱讀... The amendments to a budget law could undercut Taiwan’s artificial intelligence (AI) and technology development projects with global tech giants, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday. After the amendments to the Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures (財政收支劃分法) passed the legislature on Friday, the ministry expects a budget deficit of NT$30 billion (US$918.3 million), including NT$11.6 billion in technology research subsidies, Minister of Economic Affairs J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) told a media briefing. That would affect the ministry’s collaboration with the world’s major semiconductor companies, including Nvidia Corp, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD), Micron Technology Inc, ASML Holding NV, Lam Research Corp and Synopsys Inc to bring new technologies to Taiwan, Kuo said. Micron plans to produce high-bandwidth memory chips at its Taiwan site, while Nvidia and AMD would set up new research and development (R&D) centers in the nation, Department of Industrial Technology Director-General Chiou Chyou-huey (邱求慧) said. Such collaborations are essential parts of AI development in Taiwan, he said. Those projects rely on years of research and technology deployment, and a lack of government budget could delay their progress, Chiou said. The ministry has granted Nvidia NT$6.7 billion in subsidies for its AI innovation center in Taiwan from 2022 to 2027, while AMD is to receive NT$3.31 billion in subsidies for its new R&D center, the ministry said. Nvidia and AMD are major customers of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (台積電), while Lam Research and ASML are key equipment suppliers to it. Taiwan could risk damaging its reputation and losing its appeal to foreign investors if it cannot honor the contracts signed with foreign firms, Chiou said. The ministry said that its efforts to support an F16 jet maintenance center, a space industry development program, and 6G industry and talent cultivation programs could be affected negatively. The new government fund allocation rules would lead to allocation of NT$10 billion for a public construction budget and NT$7.44 billion in general spending, it said. To cope with budget cuts, local governments should shoulder the responsibility of building flood prevention systems, water supply systems spanning administrative regions, as the ministry can no longer afford those expenses, it said. Micro, small and medium-sized businesses would also face a lack of subsidies, it added. 新聞來源: TAIPEI TIMES 不用抽 不用搶 現在用APP看新聞 保證天天中獎 點我下載APP 按我看活動辦法Sheldon director turns Lincoln museum's focus to visitor experience
